BUKIT MERTAJAM, MALAYSIA - A 35-year-old interior designer from Taman Machang Bubok fears that unscrupulous people may use her company's lost cheques to get money from loan sharks. Loo Geng Fong said she was worried after an unidentified woman went to a bank here to withdraw RM40,000 using one of the cheques which was reported stolen by a snatch thief on Nov 16 last year.
"I was shocked when a bank officer called my husband on April 14 to inform him that a woman from Taman Impian was there to withdraw cash, using one of the cheques from our company's account which we closed after the snatch theft," she said.
However, when her husband, Goh Giap Heng, went to the bank, the woman had already fled.
Loo was speaking at the Seberang Prai MCA complaints bureau at Taman Sri Rambai here yesterday. Present were Goh and bureau chief Tan Teik Chin.
She said she lost her handbag when one of two men on a motorcycle grabbed it near her Taman Limau Manis office in Bukit Tengah.
She suffered injuries to her abdomen during the struggle with the snatch thief.Besides two cheque books, she also lost several credit and Automatic Teller Machine cards, two watches, foreign currencies worth RM6,000, a handphone and identification documents belonging to her and her child."I urge the police to investigate the matter as I suspect there is a link between the woman and the snatch thieves," said Loo.
