Break-in at Istana Melawati

PUTRAJAYA: Istana Mela-wati, the royal retreat palace here, was broken into on Saturday morning.

The break-in occurred at the staff quarters of the palace caretaker around 3am.Three men robbed the wife of the caretaker and made off with a gold ring, a gold chain, a handphone, a wallet, driving licence, ATM and credit cards and RM400.According to police sources, the victim was asleep with one of her children in the quarters' master bedroom and was awakened when three men entered the room.They had threatened to harm the child with a screwdriver before taking the items.

No one has been detained, but a police source said the robbers could have a connection with some workers hired to do repair work on the palace grounds.Police also found a screwdriver behind the staff quarters. Putrajaya police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdul Majid declined to comment on the case.This is the second such incident at Istana Melawati.
